Neural lace
A neural lace is a proposed type of neural enhancement technology popularised by Elon Musk in the mid-2010s. Musk has suggested that even under a benevolent AI scenario, the superiority of AI capabilities could reduce the importance of humans to that of a house cat. Musk argues that neural lace technology is important for human cognitive enchantment in order to keep up with accelerating developments with AI.
Building such a brain-to-computer interfaces (BCI) has been compared to building a bridge to our existing digital personas, including content in email and social-media accounts.
The proposed technology itself is based on a new nanoscale electronic mesh development.[1]
In fiction
The technology was coined in Iain M. Banks's Culture novels, where it provides a number of functions such as synthetic telepathy, neural biological control, computer network access and personality backups.[2]
